Alignment with the European Framework
-
I'm ready to do lesson 30 of Level 3 in the Upgraded Spanish program (it's been a loooong road!). Do you have a general idea of where my skillset would be on the European Framework at the end of Level 3? I'm thinking A2, early B1 based on my abilities. I am able to participate in Spanish conversations at length, especially if the other person knows at least a little English.
I don't need any exact measure, but I have been wondering about this question for a while. Gracias! -
Strong A2 for sure, especially the more you know the Fluenz materials. But even mastering them you would likely still be A2.
That said, the big step-up into the B1 range would just come down to vocabulary. If you do any additional learning, listening, reading, talking outside of Fluenz and using new vocabulary from time to time you will be in the B1 for sure.
There are probably around 1,500 individual words in all 5 levels with multiple combinations of words so you get practice via some repetition but if we go with 1,500 words or so, you need more to really be solidly in B level range.
You can pick-up vocabulary pretty quickly, especially if you read subjects that you are interested in as well as listening to radio or TV shows that interest you as well.
I would guess that if you only did Fluenz and maximized your learning from it that you could pick-up enough additional vocabulary to be a B1 within a couple of months at most. You will also be able to learn new words faster as you will already have a good base from fluenz.
Fluenz rocks and is probably the best program for building a strong base to grow from for sure.
I combine it and dreamingspanish (free youtube channel or $8 for the website which has more stuff) as well as different readers from complete novice to intermediate. The books I use mostly are from CPLI (command performance books). Each book is made up of around 400 different words total. Reading the book exposes you to the same words in different ways multiple times. By the time you go through each book a couple of times you really can add vocabulary to your brain.
Good luck!

I would also say that you can reach a strong A2 level if going through the 5 levels of Fluenz in depth. You'd need to do some extra work, especially to expand your vocab and to practice your oral expression a little more to reach a B1 level, but it's not that far away if you've already gone up until the end of leveol 5! Good luck and have fun hablando español!
