Portuguese 1 challenge mode off, but accents on some vowels still requiredHi,
We chose to use the challenge mode for more "optional" accents, the ones that don't change completely the sound of letters. However the marks you're mentioning haven't been included there since they are almost part of the letter itselfm in the sens that they change the way they sound: We understant that this choice might be frustrating when trying to learn spoken Portuguese, yet it can also be a reminder that the letter sounds idfferently, so it can also be important for spoken Portuguese.
Hoep you enjoy the rest of the program nonetheless,
Regards,

Question regarding Flashcard screenshot of French level 3 lesson 6Hi,
Your understanding of the conjugation of "Apporter" in the passé composé is correct, it must be:
On a apporté (when speaking informally) OR Nous avons apporté (if speaking formally or writing).
However in the phrase you're mentioning, the subject is neither "on", nor "nous", it is "le garçon du restaurant" (il). If you read the English translation, you'll see that it says:
the restaurant's waiter brought us... (and not "we brought..."), hence the conjugation in 3rd person singular here (He brought us...): Il nous a apporté...
The tricky part is that in French the object pronoun "us" is the same as the subject pronoun: "nous", AND it goes right before the verb, in the opposite position compared to English (he brought us = Ils nous a apoporté), so you have to read very carefully in this type of phrase to avoid confusions.
Hope it helps clarifying... -
In German Level 5 Flashcards, "Town" is "Stadt" in Session 10 and "Dorf" in Session 11Thanks for reporting this inconsistency, we'll make sure to fix it asap. Your understanding is correct: Stadt is closer to the word City because it means a much bigger place than Dorf, which means Town. Thanks again and enjoy the rest of the program!

Why do the speakers in German 1 use an "sh" sound when pronouncing "mochte," "mochten" etc? There are lots of regional differences indeed. I'm not an expert, so I'd love confirmation on this, but from what I've read, it is especially different in Bavaria and Austria, and also in South western regions...

Different Y soundsNice explanation Dennis, Depending on what sound comes right after the "y", it can be heard more or less clearly, because it can be "linked" to the following sound as in "y-usted". Its original pronunciation remains the same nevertheless..

Die versus Der following preposition "in"Nice explanation Jillfrost. It is indeed one of the big difficulties in German, since it takes time to get used to the different cases required, and to the different verbs that can be used in each situation... The preposition "in" can be used for Location , in this case it's followed by the dative case, as in: Ich bin in der Kneipe = I'm in (or at) the bar But it can also be used to describe a Direction , in this case it's followed by the accusative case, as in: Er kommt in die Kneipe = He's coming to (or into) the bar. Hope it makes sense...Keep it up!

Level 3 - Lesson 28, nicht/kein negates the part that comes after itHi Jillfrost, Thanks a lot for pointing this out. You understood the use and place of "nicht" well, your example phrases are all correct. In the last one, you couldn't follow it up with "sondern im hotel bleiben", you'd have to add the subject again, so it's more complex.
One option could be: Wir gehen morgen ins Schimmbad nicht ; doch wir bleiben stattdessen im Hotel" Now, about the workout you're mentioning from the program, you're totally right that you can't guess where to place the "nicht" here, only in the last sentence (Wir mochten heute Abend nicht zu Niklas' Feier gehen, sondern in ein Restaurant). So for this phrase the contents team will take care of adding all possible options for "nicht", we'll let you know when this update is available.
Thanks for your comment again! Hope you're enjoying the rest of the program! -
Use of ir to express futureHi James,
Your doubt is perfectly valid here since the English translation doesn't change, but the Spanish structure does. Actually what happens in the second sentence is that it is not expressing a real future in Spanish, but rather an immediate action. Sometimes you can use a present tense in Spanish to express something that you're planning to do right away. So to translate more precisely, we could say:
Voy a llamar a Sandra = I'm going to call Sandra > near future
Yo llamo a Sandra (enseguida) = I'm calling Sandra (right away) > immediate action
To avoid further confusions, we'll make sure the translation in English matches -even if it's not the most natural- in the next update. Thanks for pointing out this issue and enjoy the rest of level 5! -
Sentence Structure Summary: Spanish - Spain?Hi Tismert,
You can find a summary of all the material taught by level in the main menu of the software when clicking on the "Global Index" (at the top).
There isn't a specific part on sentence structure though, as this is something we work on throughout the program progressively, and as it depends on each situation.. (describing, comparing, commenting etc)
Hope it helps..or maybe you're looking for a specific structure? Let me know if I missed your point here
